Using Stripes and Textured Presets
When using stripes and textures as presets, you can easily change the direction of the pattern in PhotoImpact. The buttons below were all made with the same preset by making a change to the options.

To change the direction, click on the Material atrributes folder and click the Option button:

This will bring up the Texture Options Screen. Changing the direction to 90% will change the stripes from horizontal to vertical. You can also choose to fit the texture or tile the texture. Tiling repeats the pattern to fill the image (buttons 1 and 2) whereas fitting it stretches the pattern out over the entire button (buttons 3 and 4).

For this example, the image was tiled and rotated 90 degrees resulting in a vertical stripe.

Don't be afraid to experiment - you never know what you'll come up with!
