Using PNG Files in PI and PSP


(Portable Network Graphics)

The .png file format can be used in PhotoImpact, Paing Shop Pro, PhotoShop, as well as a variety of other imaging programs. By saving files in this format, it allows us to share graphics with one another.


USING .PNG FILES IN PHOTOIMPACT

CREATING A .PNG FILE:

1. Create a graphic using PI, leave it as an object.
2. Click on Web\Image Optimizer\Selected Objects Only.
3. Click the PNG button. This will bring up more options in the window.
4. Click on Alpha Channel and save.


USING A .PNG FILE:

1. Open the .png graphic in PI.
2. Graphic will have selection lines.
3. Right-click on graphpic, Convert to Object.
The object is now ready to use in PhotoImpact.




USING .PNG FILES IN PAINT SHOP PRO

CREATING A .PNG FILE:

1. Create a graphic using PSP on a transparent background.
2. Using the selection tool, drag a box around the image, then click once on the image. This will cause the image to have a selection around it.
3. Click Selections\Save to Alpha Channel\okay\okay.
4. Save file in either .png format.


USING A .PNG FILE:

1. Open the .png graphic in PSP.
2. Click on Selections\Load from Alpha Channel\click Okay.
3. Click Selections\Float. You now have a free standing object.
4. Copy object, paste as a new image. The object can now be used to make tubes, etc.

Note: For step #3, you can also do Selections\Promote to Layer.
